Why Kids Are Afraid To Go To The Doctor

March 12, 2009

I bumped into this funny picture of kids waiting in line to get a vaccine or something. It made me laughed when I saw the kid’s reaction upon inserting the needle in his arm. What made me blurted out of loud laughs was the next kid who is going to be the next one to receive the shot. I can really see the fear in his eyes!emoticon I don’t know about the 3rd kid though, he seems half scared and half whatever. Maybe he is just trying to convince the children behind him that he is not scared and laughs along with them.emoticon

I was wondering if their reactions were still the same when they got their turn.

Seeing this picture made me remember an experience as a student nurse having our rotation in the community.

Wearing our white clinical uniforms, we went to a local community to find some pregnant mothers to conduct an interview with. We were interviewing this client and noticed this little girl hiding behind her back. As my group mates were chatting with our client, I asked the girl why is she hiding from us. She answered, "Are you going to puncture me?" I smiled upon hearing the question and answered no.

Even I am afraid of needles sticking on me and it is not surprising to hear such thing being said by children. Still, I find humor on that thought and sometimes wish that the fear of syringe in this world will be gone. Hehe…
